We live in a world that looks more advanced than ever. We have fast phones, the internet, modern buildings, better ways to travel, and many ways to learn. We can speak to someone far away in seconds.
But there is a question we must ask: Are our hearts becoming better as our technology becomes better?
Sadly, many people are struggling inside. Some have money but no peace. Some have many friends online but feel lonely. Some can speak to thousands of people but have nobody they can truly trust. We have learned how to connect phones, but sometimes we have forgotten how to connect hearts.
This does not mean everything in today's society is bad. There are many good people doing good things. People help the poor, care for their families, teach others, give charity, and stand against injustice. The problem is that bad habits can slowly become normal.
โCorruption has appeared throughout the land and sea because of what peopleโs hands have earned...โ โ Qur'an 30:41
A society does not become lost in one day. It can happen little by little. When people stop caring about right and wrong, the darkness grows.
Chapter 2 โ When Wrong Becomes Normal
One of the biggest problems in society is that some wrong things no longer make people feel ashamed.
A person tells a lie and says, โIt is only a small lie.โ Someone talks badly about another person and calls it โjust a joke.โ Someone breaks a promise and says, โEverybody does it.โ Someone cheats in business and says, โI have to survive.โ
When wrong is repeated again and again, the heart can become used to it.
โThe signs of a hypocrite are three...โ โ Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ, Sahih al-Bukhari 33
A small hole can sink a boat if it is ignored. In the same way, small wrongs should not be treated as harmless when they become habits.
Chapter 3 โ The Pressure To Look Perfect
Social media has changed the way people see themselves and others. We see pictures of people smiling, travelling, wearing nice clothes, eating good food, and enjoying life. But a picture does not show everything.
Someone may look happy online while having a very difficult day. Someone may look rich while struggling with money. Someone may receive many likes but still feel empty.
The danger comes when we start measuring our value by the number of likes, comments, followers, or views we receive.
Ask yourself: Who am I when nobody is watching? Do I tell the truth when lying would help me? Do I help people when nobody will praise me? Do I pray because I love Allah, or only because people are watching?
โActions are judged by intentions.โ โ Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ, reported in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim
Technology is not the enemy. It can be used for learning, business, communication, and spreading good messages. But we must control our phones instead of allowing our phones to control us.
Chapter 4 โ When Money Becomes Everything
Money is useful. We need it for food, education, shelter, transport, and many other things. Islam does not tell us to hate wealth. The problem starts when money becomes the main purpose of life.
Some people begin to think that a person is important because of the car he drives, the clothes he wears, the house he lives in, or the amount of money in his account. But what happens when those things are gone?
A person's true value cannot be measured by his possessions. Character matters. Honesty matters. Kindness matters. Faith matters.
โThe world is a prison for the believer and Paradise for the disbeliever.โ โ Sahih Muslim 2956
We should work hard and earn what is lawful, but we should never allow money to become our master.
Chapter 5 โ The Family Is Getting Quieter
A strong society begins with strong families. A child first learns how to speak, respect, forgive, and care for others at home.
But today, many families are becoming distant. People may sit in the same room while everyone is looking at a different screen. A parent may be busy all day. A child may spend hours online looking for advice from strangers.
Sometimes the problem is not a lack of love. It is a lack of time.
Put the phone down and talk. Eat together when you can. Ask your parents how they are. Listen to your children. Visit relatives. Check on your neighbours. Pray together. These things may look small, but small acts can repair big problems.
โEach of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock.โ โ Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ, Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim
Chapter 6 โ A Message To Young People
Young people are important. You are not only the future; you are part of today's society.
Do not let the internet decide your value. Do not believe that you must copy everyone around you to be accepted. Be proud of good character.
Study hard. Learn useful skills. Respect your parents and teachers. Choose good friends. Protect your prayers. Speak carefully. Do not make another person's weakness a joke. Do not follow every trend just because it is popular.
โThe strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, while there is good in both.โ โ Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ, Sahih Muslim
Chapter 7 โ Information And Wisdom
Today, information is everywhere. With a phone, a person can learn about almost anything. But knowing information is not the same as having wisdom.
A person can know many verses but still treat people badly. Someone can watch hundreds of lectures but refuse to change a bad habit. Someone can win an argument but still have a proud heart.
Real knowledge should make us better. Ask, โWhat has my knowledge changed in me?โ Has it made me more honest, patient, respectful to my parents, helpful to the poor, careful with my tongue, or regular in prayer?
Chapter 8 โ The Darkness Can Be Broken
After reading about the problems in society, someone may feel hopeless. But Islam does not teach us to give up.
โIndeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.โ โ Qur'an 13:11
We may not be able to change the whole world today. But we can change ourselves today.
Stop one lie. Return one trust. Say sorry to someone. Forgive someone. Pray a prayer you have been neglecting. Open the Qur'an. Give charity. Help a neighbour. Leave a bad habit. Speak kindly.
A room becomes bright when one lamp is switched on. In the same way, one good person can become a light in a dark place.
Chapter 9 โ The Mirror Is For All Of Us
This book is not written to say that everyone else is the problem. It is a mirror for all of us.
We complain about people who lie, but have we always told the truth? We complain about disrespect, but how do we speak to our parents? We complain about young people being lost, but what example are we giving them? We complain about society, but what are we adding to it?
Before pointing a finger at another person, look at your own heart.
Ask yourself: What bad habit have I started calling normal? Who have I hurt? Who do I need to forgive? Who deserves an apology from me? How is my relationship with Allah? What good thing have I been delaying?
Chapter 10 โ The Forgotten Hereafter
The world is temporary. We may enjoy good things, but we should never forget that our real home is with Allah in the Hereafter.
Money can buy a bed, but it cannot always buy peaceful sleep. It can buy food, but it cannot buy a thankful heart. It can buy a house, but it cannot always create a loving family.
Work hard and earn what is lawful, but never allow money to become your master.
Chapter 11 โ The Qur'an's Warning And Hope
The Qur'an warns about corruption and reminds us that change begins with what people change within themselves.
Qur'an 30:41 reminds us about corruption on land and sea. Qur'an 13:11 reminds us that change begins within.
These warnings are also calls to return, repent, repair and do good.
Chapter 12 โ Lessons From The Prophet
The Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ taught honesty, keeping trusts, good intentions, responsibility and strength joined with goodness.
Faith should appear in our character, choices, treatment of others and responsibility.
Chapter 13 โ Wisdom From The Scholars
The great scholars of Islam reminded people that knowledge should lead to good action. Information alone is not enough.
Ask not only, โWhat do I know?โ Ask, โWhat has my knowledge changed in me?โ
Chapter 14 โ Can Society Be Changed?
We may not be able to change the whole world at once. Start with your room, your phone, your speech, your prayer, your friends and your choices.
If people become better, families can become better. If families become better, communities can become better. If communities become better, society can become better.
Chapter 15 โ Start With Yourself
The dark stain on today's society is real, but it does not have to be permanent. The cleaning can begin today. And it can begin with you.
Be honest when others lie. Be kind when others are cruel. Forgive when revenge is easy. Pray when the world is distracting you. Help when nobody is watching.
